Hi all:

i recently spill a wee bit of soda on my old apple adb extended keyboard. Well i wiped it down and aside from my arrow keys being a bit stick the board works fine. EXCEPT the fact that the scroll lock light is on.

Now i know this seems like small potatoes, but it sees to have an odd side effect. Any time i press the startup key why the machine is running (either get the shutdown prompt) or try a three finder salute, the key doesn't work. Now i know what you are thinking: its the soda stupid. but when the machine is off i press the key and she boots right up. Then the SCROLL LOCK light come on on the keyboard and the startup key is dead.

I have no clue as to what the key combination is to kill that infernal light. F14 has scroll lock written on it, but shirft F14, or command F14 or whatever doesn't get rid of the light. and yes i tried unpluggint he keyboard. It jsut hates me.

Any one know why this light is on, or why more importantly my startupkey is not working only while the machine is running. Its an old power mac 6500 and i had haveing to use the physical force shutdown swithc. I mean its just so bad for the powersupply and the logic board and all. I need my 3 finger salute....

Sounds like the soda dried up fine but left some sticky residue behind. This is probably causing the keys to not function properly. Aside from taking the keyboard apart and cleaning it out, you are probably stuck (no pun intended) with this problem. It may be just as easy to get a new keyboard. Hope this helps.
