I'm thinking about buying a GeForce 4 Ti from Apple (in Store > Accessories > Displays > ), but I've only got a Dual 500 with a 2X AGP slot. Apple says it requires 4x, but all the PC GF4Ti cards are 2x backwards compatible. Anyone know if it will work in a 2x machine? Also - will there be a bottleneck at the slot.. i.e. can the 2x use all the power of the card, or would I be better off finding an Apple 2x GeForce 3 card that a) would be cheaper and b) perform as well as a GF4Ti in a 2x slot?

Great question. I have the same dilemma. Only, I have a single processor 500 AGP 2X. I would love one, but you're right, if the 2X can't handle it, then getting a GF3 would be a better deal.

Anyone?

I've done some quick research and I believe that 4X AGP requirement in the upgrade card kit is a typo.

Looking at some of the specs on the GF4Ti cards that are sold for PC's, they are backwards compatible and will work with both AGP 2X and 4X systems.

I suppose ultimately, someone could just try it out and if it doesn't work to just return it back to Apple.

Of course, unless somebody actually tries it, I don't think we can know for sure either way.
