Bought an external SATA/USB 2.0 enclosure a few days ago from newegg with a SATA Seagate Barracuda 300gb drive.

Worked fine for a few days. Yesterday I attempted to copy the 60gb of data I had on it to a second external drive (for a second backup).

Halfway through I got a message saying the transfer couldn't be completed because the original volume was unreadable. Tok a look at the Finder window and saw that it had 220gb free (so ~60gb were still on the drive, I assume) but it had 0 items showing.

A few seconds later, the Powerbook's monitor faded to a foggy grey and told me I had to restart the computer. Couldn't do anything else.

Now, the Powerbook runs fine, but anytime I attempt to plug in the 300gb Seagate, I get the same lockup screen and have to restart immediately.

I can get a copy of Disk Warrior, but to my knowledge, I have to be able to at least plug the drive in and run the program. At the moment, I can't even plug the drive in w/o locking up the Powerbook. I've tried plugging it into an iMac at work and it did the same thing. Tried plugging it into a PC and it didn't even detect.

Any clues? Thanks!

update:

Bought a copy of Disk Warrior. Booted holding down C. Without the drive plugged in Disk Warrior works fine. If I boot to the Disk Warrior CD with the drive plugged in, however, I get the same lockup screen about halfway through the boot.

I have no idea what might be going on. Some kind of seriously corrupt drive. Any ideas how to salvage what's on there?

Thanks for any help.
