I am thinking about replacing my Epson 700 tomorrow with the c80. I would like to get any owners opinions on it.

Do you still have to shut these printers on and off manually every time you use it.

Does it spend 3 minutes cleaning the heads every time you turn it on?

Does it waste tons of ink cleaning the heads?

Thanks for your help.

The C80, for me, has replaced all my HP's and all but two other Epson's ( 880 and 900) models.

The quality using the Epson photo paper (available at Costco for $19.95 pkg 100 sheets) is photo quality.

I leave mine on 24/7/365 with no ill effects. I have yet to clean or need to clean the heads. You may find more experiences at <a href="http://www.dpreview.com" target="_blank">www.dpreview.com</a> and go to forums, click printers and search for C80.

I never looked back on my decision; was a no brainer, working excellently on OSX.1.5 and OS9.x.x

I have one running with 10.1.5 and it's the most reliable printer I've ever had. Good value. Ink usage is fine. Quiet, fast and trouble free. Can't really comment on the startup time of it, since I never turn it off. Have it plugged into a USB port which is plugged and unplugged from my Pismo daily, and never have any problems or need to power it down.

Left on all the time, it will go into low power mode, but is ready to print right away. print quality is great (especially photos). Nice that it has separate ink cartridges for each color, and <a href="http://www.ink4art.com" target="_blank">Ink4Art</a> sells replacement cartridges for less than Epson branded.
good luck!

So I ended up getting the c80. Haven't used it enough to have a strong opinion of it yet.

What I have noticed is that is is VERY VERY fast with text printing. Incredible compaired to my old Epson Photo 700.

When it comes to Photoprinting it doesn't seems any better or faster then my very old Epson 700. I am disapointed that the speed isn't any better but the quality is great but only on Glossy Photo paper.

I will use it some more and see how I feel about it in a month.

Thanks for your help guys.

On glossy paper it does not print black so your photos are a little flatter. It has something to do with the water resistant inks. I actually had to dig through some online documentation stuff, because I read some forums about quality being bad on glossy paper. It would be nicer if epson made a bigger point of this fact.

Actually I found the oposite to be true. I tried printing on "matte paper Heaveyweight" and the photo quality was terrible. If I could find Matte Photo paper that would be great though.

If you printed on the matte paper and it turned out worse than the glossy paper well then there can only be one explanation! You have a printer from the bizarro universe! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I print all my photos on matte paper because it looks so much nicer (not just c80, but in general). I think most stores just sell the glossy paper because the general public is used to thinking of photos as glossy. So you might have to go online to find thick matte paper.

BTW Most of the photographers portfolios that I have seen are usually on matte paper.

regarding my earlier posts: I forgot to say that it should be matte photo paper not just plain old matte paper (my bad).

The comparison is between glossy photo paper and matte photo paper. Supposedly the c80 will not print black on glossy photo paper so the quality of the matte photo paper will be superior.

Plain old paper will always look bad.

Thanks for bearing with me.

"I forgot to say that it should be matte photo paper"

Ya as I said it was just heavyweight matte paper, not matte photopaper which I couldn't find. The glossy turned out alright though.

Anyone else notice the inability to check C80 ink levels after upgrading to 10.1.5?

Thanks. For some reason I had forgotten that I have to use the Epson Printer Utility to check ink levels. It works. My brain must have regressed to OS9 mode and expected to see that option in Page Setup.

After getting an iMac and c80, I simply plugged it in and it worked, is there additional software I should install for additional features (e.g. Epson Printer Utility)?

Since you've talked about matte photo paper vs. glossy here, I wonder if any of you have had experience with the Epson ColorLife paper? I used it occasionally, and was somewhat disappointed with its tendency to curl a bit, instead if staying nice and flat. as it comes out of the package. I am using an Epson 870--would that make a difference?

I know this is an old thread but since I'm a new member to this forum I thought I'd post a good website for getting better prints with the C80 --specifically getting better black prints. It helped me immensely since I was getting magenta hued prints each time I was printing b&w on glossy paper.

www.inkjetart.com/c80/better_blacks.html
I've been on the computer for
how long?
