I posted this in "powerbook", and as yet have had no luch, so maybe this will get some help. Here is the originally posted topic:
I have a powerbook 5300 ce with mac os 8.6 on it. I have a connection to the internet, but it is very slow, so I usually use the windows
computer to surf, although If I need a file I can get it.
I have a cdrom drive, and the correct scsi cables to connect it. On startup, the cd will spin and it searches a second to see if it should start
from the cd,
but then it has the "smiley" mac that means found system software and it starts up. I ran scsi disk probe, and it shows the cdrom drive on 3 or
something. When I click mount, the cd spins, and then it stops, and does nothing.
no error message, just nothing. I ran system profiler, and on the device tab, it shows the cdrom drive and says: "note, not mounted". I have an
AOL cd that I inserted for testing, and in the system profiler it has the "aol try now" or whatever label
attached, so I know it is reading the cd properly, but I still can't mount it, and there is still no cd icon on the desktop. It said something in scsi
disk probe under options about restarting to install, and not installed. also something about the
apple/command or whatever key and space to init. the drive or something. I tried moving some extensions to and from the extension folder,
and rebooted several times in the process, but still nothing.
someone please help me!
If someone would meet me in a chatroom that would be very appreciated, so pm me if you can, or just send replies to this.
