I recently pulled out my iSight which was put away in my closet for almost two years now. I connect it to my PowerBook and open iChat to configure it and I see that the picture is inverted like a mirror image. I dunno if this is a defect with the camera or the settings are messed up. How can I fix this?

The built-in iSights on newer iMacs and MacBook Pros are the same way. I don't suppose there's a simple way to counter-act this aside from flipping all the photos in a photo viewer/editor, is there?

The camera records normally, always. iChat (and Photo Booth) shows you yourself in mirror image, but the images sent/saved are not mirrored.

For total image control, including rotation of your isight picture I recommend iGlasses
I gotta have more cowbell.
