I am looking at buying a G4 Cube and was wondering if I could get a good 17" Monitor for less than the Apple 17" Monitor. I think $499 is to much to pay for a 17" Monitor.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Good luck if you get a Cube tsheley. No problems with my 17 inch monitor, and its looks compliment the Cube as well as the Apple flat panels do.

Check out the Peripherals forum for other comments. Moving thread there . . .

If you can swing it you should consider the flat panel 15inch. It feels bigger than it is because the *entire* screen is utilized, unlike most CRT displays.

The picture quality is amazing; the power, USB and digital signal are all carried in the same cable from your cube. Since there is no analog conversion of the signal, there is no noticable degradation at all. I was pleasantly surprised as the initial reason I bought it was because I could bring it back to china in a suitcase, but I've been designing on it for the past several months here (coming from using a sony 21 inch CRT) and I have no complaints.

Not to mention that it just looks so darn cool...

I just got a new Samsung SyncMaster 170T 17” flat panel display for my G4/733. It's really spectacular! It displays more (1280x1024) than my previous 20” Apple monitor. It is much crisper and brighter. It comes with digital and analog interfaces. I’m using the digital interface with an ADC to DVI adapter.

Apple will probably come out with a 17” flat panel this year, but this one couldn’t be much better. It’s silver and grey and matches the G4 almost exactly.
