Hi,

My epson 740i will not print at all becuase I cannot choose the USB port from the chooser. Everything is plugged in correctly and I have OS 9.1. I curently have no black ink but I have lot of colorr ink. I read somewhere on these fora that maybe the printer wont print becuase I have no black ink regardless if I have color ink. Can anyone verify this for me? I do not want to spend 25 USD on a cartridge and return it later on. Thanks!

The 740's need color and black ink to function even if you don't need one of them for the item you are printing.

Yup, correct.
You can normally milk it for a little more though - take the cartridge out then out it back.
That way it will use the other cartridge too. Even if one is empty (the one you put back).
Mind you it won't let you eject it then - you have to turn it on the yank the power when its in the right position to switch carts.
But anyway...
