I use my 'pod with my 533DP at home, sync's nicely with iTunes.

Now, I've heard rumblings about not even trying to hook it up to another Mac, as it will erase the tunes?? Info, please!

How about if I simply want to charge it via firewire on a different Mac. Bad results? Not recommended.

Thanks.

You can use it with other computers and it will not delete your music. You do have to set it to manual update. Actually, you probaby don't need to do that either. When you first plug it in to a new Mac it will ask you if you wish to make that computer your primary computer. You click no and I think it goes automatically to manual update.

Anyway, I hooked up my iPod to an iBook at the Apple store and heard how great the JBL speakers sounded. Also copied some music from its iTunes to my iPod and imported a CD right at the store! Employees kept coming over and asking if they could help me, I had to keep saying I was ok, just checking out the iBook.

If you plug the iPod into another Mac, then it will give you the option of erasing all songs and syncing with the tunes on the second Mac, or simply mounting it as a Firewire disk (in which case it would still be charged from the second computer -- you wouldn't be able to add songs to it via iTunes). What you could do is copy the mp3s you wish to add from the second computer onto the iPod (as a FW disk), then back on the first computer, add these songs to your iTunes library, and resync.

Thanks. And I really like your suggestion, Spikey. Now there's a good use for the iPod HD option!

How can you copy the songs from your iPod to the first computer? I think you need to use third party software for that right?
