Do you have to buy 12x CD-R's to be able to write to them at 12x? or could you still write at 12x to a 6x CD-R? because i'm having trouble finding 12x CD-R's (in the UK) and am about to get the Que 12x/10x/32x...

Thank You

I burn 4x media on my 8x burner all the time. I don't know that a 12x would be different, but it certainly works for me.

well, you don't HAVE to buy 12x CDRs to be able to write them at 12x. you can buy whatever you like and write them at whatever speed you want. however, if you're writing at 12x, media that's been certified for writing at 12x probably won't fail as often as media that's been certified for a slower speed. i'm not saying that you won't be able to do it, just that when some (a lot? most? nearly all?) of your discs fail, don't be surprised.

and with media so cheap, why not buy the 12x?

Hi all,
I have a Que 12x/10x/32x and have had problems with certain CD-R media. Generally, since Audio CDs require more precise recording the following comments are in terms of creating audio CDs. No media that I have tried or discussed below has failed recording data. All media below is labeled as at least 12x and cost no more than $1 per CD-R, typically much less.

1. GC 80Min Silver (Generic; 'GC' - Great Quality) - Fails
2. Memorex 74Min Gold - OK, sometimes momemtarily fails to track
3. Memorex 80Min Silver - Best, never fails but is 1$/disc

Last, check out Plextor's website. They list media which will absolutely work but may cost more.

Make sure you update Toast to 4.1.2 or you will have problems as discussed in other threads.
