I've just gotten a new iomega Predator CD-RW. My question is, what experiences have you all had with burning at 4X using the USB interface of your external CD burners?

I've been burning at 2X since I tried one at 4X and it crashed halfway through the disk. I'm going to try and up the disk cache and see if that works.

If you have an older iMac or B&W G3 or PCI G4 your USB is not nearly so robust as those Macs which have been made since about January 2000. You only have one USB controller where the newer Macs have two and support better bandwidth to the entire USB bus. If you do have an older Mac the USB bus could be your problem.

Thanks for the replies. I logged onto iomega.com and found some advise that helped. I set the buffer from 2mb to 8mb. That seems to have done the trick. I've burned two straight disks at 4X and I'm going for more!
