I have an iBook (G3 300), and I'm looking at getting one of those new iMac's, neither of which have a DVD player,,,, does anyone make an external USB DVD player? Since my iBook doesn't have a firewire port... But how much would an external DVD player cost?

i actually have never seen and cannot find any external DVD-ROM drives for mac. for two years all Macs had them except for the iMacs/iBooks which only had USB ports. and I believe USB would be too slow for DVD playback. it would need to be able to reliably maintain over 60% of the theoretical maximum data transfer rate (need ~930 k/sec. theoretical max 1.5MB/sec), which we have not seen it do (i've read cd-read performance maxes out at around 800 k/sec, and not vaguely resembling consistent). so if there were an external DVD-ROM drive, it would in all likelyhood be FireWire.
