Because of the difference in quality from one MP3 to another, some songs are quiet and others are robust. For example, songs ripped at top-quality from my own CDs are loud and clear (the way it should be). However, songs downloaded from Napster, say at 160 kbps are obviously not as clear.

It's a pain to have to keep adjusting the volume of my iPod, or even iTunes. Am I correct to assume this is something we just have to deal with? Does anyone have a unique way of minimizing the issue?

BTW, if this (and the mirrored back) are my only complaints about this amazing little device... It's safe to say I love my iPod. I can't wait to plug her into my new ComboDrive iMac .. which is still "Being Assembled."

They say good things come to those...

you can adjust the volume setting for the quiet songs in itunes. select all the quiet songs and get info about them. click on the options tab and adjust the volume slider to the desired level. click okay and your changes should be saved in itunes and be carried over to your ipod when you transfer the songs.

That's pretty simple. Thanks.

I did actually know that was a way to handle it... But it's kind of labour-intensive with hundreds of songs to tweak. I guess I'm waiting for a hack that's like a master volume or somethin'. Wish I could code... It'd be nice to have something that automatically boosts quiet songs while suppressing loud songs... Keeping the volume at one comfortable level.

Of course, I've been waiting for a TV that could do the same thing for years. It's like when you're watching cable late at night trying not to wake up your wife... Then some a-hole car dealership commercial comes on and is like 3 times louder than the show you were watching.

Check out MP3 Rage. It does a lot of things, and one of them is to adjust the volume of all your mp3s to that of a sample you give it.
