Saw a HP 990 today at Staples...Does anyone have one yet? Comments or critique? How does it compare
to the HP 970cxi?

It is a little faster than the 970. It has Infared capabilities, it can be connected to two computers at once, one through parallel and the other through USB. Both have the two-sided module. Other than that they are quite similar. The 990 has a lighter case...

Infrared printing means that computers with infrared ports can print without using any cables. It's meant as a convenience for notebook computers with infrared ports. You can set the notebook near the printer and not bother with disconnecting/connecting the printer cables.

I'd check with HP to make sure Mac is supported for infrared printing if that feature is important to you. USB Mac support is excellent....joe
