I've been looking to buy a CD-RW for my iMac. Since it is a Rev.A I am stuck with the USB interface.

Outpost is currently offering the Que! 4x4x8 USB CD-RW w/FREE 50-pk CD-R for $199 after rebate.

I would like to use this drive with to burn CD's with Apple's new desktop disk burning software and iTunes. However, QPS's product page does not list which drive mechanism is used. Thus I am unable to confirm compatibility with iTunes.

Has anyone used a Que! 4x4x8 USB CD-RW with iTunes and Apple's desktop burning software?

I'm pretty sure it will work but want to be absolutely certain.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

it uses a Mitsumi mech. It's on the firmware page.
And it's compatible with iTunes. Here's the iTunes compatibility page.

I had an old 4x2x8x (I think it was 8x on the read CD) Que! USB drive that I sold on eBay. I never used it with iTunes (I sold it before iTunes came out), but I did use it with Toast and I made far more coasters than CDs. The USB interface was slow and unreliable and caused Toast to hang frequently (I ran it on a B&W G3 300 MHz with 128 MB at the time). I just got my new Que! Fire 8x4x32x from Mac Mall today and burned a CD with iTunes on a PB G3 2000 400 MHz 190 MB and it worked beautifully. I did not even need to install any driver software. The PB recognized it immediately, as did iTunes. It is a lot bigger than I would have liked, but for $220, I couldn't pass it up!

I've had no problems at att using my Que! 4.4.8 USB with iTunes 1.1. I burn CDs all the time and burn very few coasters. Usually, the coasters I do burn are attributed to this archaic CD stock we have in the office. I've had no problems with name-brand media from Staples.
