I am facing the following predicament. I would like to get a CD-RW for my iMac. Because it is a Rev.A Bondi, I am stuck with burning at 4x over USB for now. However, I have a FireWire PC Card in my current PowerBook and any new Mac I get will also have FireWire. Thus it would be nice to get a CD-RW that works with both USB and FireWire. So...

Are there any high-speed (preferably 16x) CD-RW drives with both USB and FireWire interfaces?

I've looked around quite a bit. The only solution I found was to get an empty 5.25" FireWire/USB external enclosure and install a 16x "internal" CD-RW in it. (I like the thought of using a Yamaha LightSpeed CRW2100 16x10x40 mechanism, which is compatible with iTunes.) Any other options? Thoughts? Suggestions?

TIA,
Escher

Let's have a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook with AirPort and 5 hour battery life now!

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

Hi Escher. I'm sure you've also looked at the Iomega Predator drive. I have one and it works great although the FireWire adapter won't be available for a month or so. You'll note that the Predator will only burn at 8x 4x 32x with the FireWire adapter and 4x 4x 6x with USB. But I will say that I've been pleased with it. And my primary consideration was that I needed it for more than one computer, one of which only has USB (350 iMac).
