Hello,
I'm shopping for an LCD display right now and would buy the 17" Studio Display, but with the Screen Saver promotion ending soon, I'm wary that a new lineup may be around the corner.

Would anyone care to speculate on whether new displays are coming and what features might be expected? The 17" Studio Display came out a year ago I think and its price has been the same since - is it reasonable to expect a price drop or significant new features (e.g. increased resolution) already?

Thanks for any information!

Just buy it. I doubt Steve-o is gonna release new LCDs until G5 (and that is only if he gets a new case design).

The deal is too good to pass up in my opinion. If I had the money, I'd get me my powermac and 17" display as well

IMHO, I don't think we're going to see any new LCD screens soon. I think the promotions are just to keep sales going, as this past year has been a horrible time to sell computers, and Apple has seen their sales slip considerably also. They announced a few weeks back that they weren't going to introduce any new hardware for quite some months.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

with the prices of LCDs on the rise...it might be a good time to get one. I can't see apple increasing the prices on their already overpriced 17 though......then there are those pesky little rumors about a 18in cinema display...and the like.... MWNY?

great....I've been no help......

Definitely buy. Apple already said that no product announcements will come at Macworld Tokyo. WWDC isn't until May and Macworld NY isn't until July. Without any computer upgrades/updates expected soon and no trade shows to target for announcements, it will be summer at the earliest before any LCD updates. I'd guess longer than that, though.

I say, take advantage of the deal.

Buy it. Everyone thought that LCD prices would eventually fall, but so far they haven't at all. Besides, by the time they DO fall, they Apple 17" would only drop about $200 or so, if that much. No point in waiting.

I'm only buying a display so I can't take advantage of the Screen Saver deal. When the new G4's came out, Apple kept the promotion but changed the reduction to be dependent on the display you buy (rather than the computer), which gave me the feeling that they might be updating the displays soon...

But thanks for the information about the LCD prices - if they haven't fallen, then I can't see Apple coming out with a new lineup soon. Now I'm actually tempted by the Cinema Display... (of course I can't really quite afford it but may end up buying it anyway - every time I happen to see one, the urge grows harder to resist )
