I need a floppy drive for my iMac DV SE (MacOS 9.0.4), and it is very important that the drive reads/writes PC formatted floppies without the use of Virtual PC/Soft PC.
I've tried with the new TEAC FD-05PUB, but it didn't understand the PC formatted floppies. It wanted to format it to MacOS standard format (1.4 MB), and there were no other options.

Can anybody help me?

rsmusms, check out the VST USB Floppy. It's small, and compact, and the one extension that comes with it will read and write to PC floppies and it's a fast drive all things considered. I use mine to transfer presentations and word documents to and from my Powerbook to PC's and the disks always work (knock on wood). Good luck! It's worth the money you pay for it in my opinion. especialy if you're going to use it a lot :-)

Another suggestion would be to look into an Imation USB SuperDrive. I bought the 2x model and it supports PC and Mac 1.4MB floppies as well as 120MB SuperDisks which are identical in size and shape to regular floppies (including write protect tab). This way you get not only floppy compatibility, but larger backup media too. If you can wait a bit, a new ultra low profile 240MB version is due early next year....joe

I agree with Joe. Imation 2x SuperDisk is nice to use and now you can find them very cheap compared to floppy readers only. I have 1 for nearly a year and it works fine whatever i use floppy or SuperDisk in PC or Mac format.
