I am getting a CDRW this year for christmas, and am curious to know if there is such a thing as a firewire to usb adapter available or a product that has both connections on the product. I only have a rev B iMac and an iBook that have usb only. Soon I will get a newer version of each so I can have firewire but in the meantime, I really want a CDRW but dont want to have to buy a new one along with my new computer. What does anyone suggest. Thanks for any help in advance

All of the new Macs will still have USB so you don't really need a Firewire CDRW.
Also when you look at the throughput needed to write a CD USB can cope. I've got a USB ZipCD that I've had no problems with. Your mileage may vary though.

No, there is no such adapter, nor will there ever be. I'd advise you to hold off on your CD-RW purchase until you can purchase a FireWire drive (and use it with a FireWire Mac, of course).

Theoretically it is possible, I have seen a SCSI to USB adapter as well as a firewire to SCSI adapter so technically you can connect the two and - voila - firewire to USB!! But whether you will be able to utilize firewire's speed is probably highly unlikely

In addition to not getting the speed, which will be limited to the lowest connection (USB) you would also spend about $150 for this, only to end up with a FireWire burner working at USB speeds. You could almost buy a regular USB burner with what you would spend on the adapters.
I also suggest waiting. USB burners are limited to 4X and sometimes don't work well above 2X. FireWire can sustain the fastest drives out there, currently 16X. If you plan on burning a lot of CDs, that will make a big difference.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I was really hoping someone out there came out with a dual connection for either. I guess I will have to wait until I get a firewire equipped Mac. Thanks

misha, i dont know about an "adapter" but i have seen "enclosures" that house internal cd burners that go from scsi to usb. they come with their own power supply and i believe a fan also. i have the web address at home, (i'm at work now and i'm typing this on a ........PEECEE!!!aarrrggghh!!! )

found it!! (it was posted by apple_john) www.macally.com/new/usb/newca805uc.html
it seems like the way to go if the cd burner you want doesnt yet come in usb. (yamaha doesnt make one yet, to my knowledge) and an internal scsi is probably cheaper.

Freecom do a range of DV,CD and CDR which have a common input. They then sell a hub-like adapter (or a cable with a circuit board) for USB firewire or serial connectivity.
