I've more or less decided to get one of these models for my Ti and I just wanted to solicit opinions (godd or bad) on current Canon scanners.

Has anyone used the slide/neg scanning ability of the 660? Is it useful or trash (the reviews I've read are coflicting).

Any other suggestions for a compact scanner from another manufacturer would also be appreciated (the Epsons and UMAXs all seem too bulky for my needs).

I have the 1220U -- it is slightly larger (lxw) than the Ti and weighs less. Takes great scans, you won't be disappointed. Don't have any experience with their negative scanning attachments.

The Current small USB Cannon scanners are really good.

As far as slide scanning goes, do you want to use it for basic web work? because if you need to do anything higher you will need to look at a much higher res printer. Apart from that if you have a portable go for it... they are small light, good quality. A little slower than a desktop scanner, but that's to be expected.

Thanks for the info guys, I decided to get a 650 (bascially the same as the 656 except it's white). The 656 was not available from my campus reseller, it's otherwise the same machine. Slide scanning would have been nice but I don't really need it (at the res that works) so it wasn't such a big deal.
