Hey there,

I've been looking around unsuccessfuly for a while and I haven't been able to find any memory to upgrade my Personal LaserWriter 320. Everytime I try and print something with a picture in it, I get postscript errors saying "Not enough memory" or something. Does anyone know where I can find some memory for this printer? I'd hate to throw it out -- it still works fine for simple print jobs...

Thanks,

The Personal LaserWriter 300 only had 512k of RAM soldered on the board with no RAM slots for expansion. It look like you are out of luck.

I don't think my printer only has 512K of RAM. It says right here in the specifications and through LaserWriter 8 that it has 2MB. I think the 300 may have had onl 512K, but not the 320.

I'm sorry, I was thinking 300 when I looked it up. The 320 has 2MB soldered with one slot, maxing out at 8MB. It takes a 72-pin 80ns SIMM in either a 2MB or 6MB size. Most places don"t carry smaller than 8MB anymore. I have bought memory from Microtech International before. Call and see if they have something that would fit. 800-626-4276. I hope that helps.

Hey there,

Thanks for the help Paul. By the way, where did you find out this information. Is there a memory guide on the web around where I can find out this kind of stuff?

Thanks,

MMRS

The Personal LaserWriter 320 does not have a 72-pin memory slot. It has an Apple propriatary memory expansion slot that is unique to the LW 320. The 2MB upgrade may speed up some printing tasks, but I would suggest the 6MB upgrade if you're going to upgrade at all. With the full 8MB of memory, Apple's own PhotoGrade technology is automatically turned on, which improves the quality of grayscale output (such as when you print pictures, etc.) The 6MB upgrade is avilable for $84 at:

$84 US for 6MB!?! Hmm... Maybe I should invest in an Epson bubble jet that has colour. I think buying new might be a better & cheaper solution.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, it's a little hard to believe how much memory for some of the older printers cost. Unless you're pretty attached to your LaserWriter (like I am to my LaserWriter Pro 810), the memory upgrade is a bit pricy. A new Epson 777 color printer costs roughly $79-89 these days...

I found the information at www.apple.com/support. Click on the support index and then AppleSpec. It didn't specify the RAM type but most printers back them used 72-pin SIMMS. I suppose I made the wrong assumption on that. Sorry.
