i picked up a firewire webcam over the weekend - http://www.adstech.com/

it works great, the video quality is better than i expected. my only problem is that i'm trying in vain to find some webcam software that is compatible with it.

i tried occulus but it seems to garble my images. they look nothing like the preview i get in the program. they're all distorted colors, not even human anymore.

has anyone else encountered this problem? is there an option in oculus to FTP in a different mode or something? any other suggestions for better software?

Try Real-Eyes, from iRez.
www.irez.com

It's good for basic capture and editing. There is a free version of it (paying for it will get you a code that unlocks more features, much like QuickTime Pro).

Oi!! I was looking at the ADS Tech firewire webcam, and at the very bottom of the stats sheet i became completely confused.. tell me, this must be a typo, is that cam *really* 9"x9"x4.5"?

i keep thinking to myself, "It does look largish in their photos." and then "no WAY would a desktop cam be *9* inches!"

please enlighten!

something i've found in my cam-info-quest: http://www.shipitforyou.com/profiles/inserts/p58103.pdf

a chart, courtesy of the OrangeMicro people, listing some salient cam stats. i'm using it as a base for more info - so far i only *know* of one firewire cam which - for a fact - can sit on an iBook lid. if anyone knows if the iBot foot moves, bends or is used to hang that cam, i'd appreciate knowing. and how about the Pyro 1394 WebCam - does it only come with the little {i still hope it's little'r than 9"} desk pedestal?

also, if anyone knows: the Pyro 3194 {ADS Technology cam} has a number of image quality controls {colour balance, white level} listed in their flash sheet. does the KritterDIGITAL have similar image control and they decided that information was just too idiot basic to include?

clues appreciated,
~Ky

i just went back to the info page with this outrageous cam stat... http://www.adstech.com/products/pyro_webcam.html

they must mean the BOX. they've got to. it looks kinda 9"x9" squarish. i could believe that the box is 9"x9", while i cannot believe the cam would be...

ok, i am soothed as regards the Size Mystery.

other queries still apply...

~Ky

the Pyro is MUCH less than 9 inches. it's a great little cam that sits atop my 17" monitor with tons of room to spare.

it does only have that little pedestal though. no other "feet" or anything.

if only it worked with oculus! damn you oculus!
