I just bought an iBook 466 with 128 RAM. I also bought an SCSI to USB adapter to use my current Zip drive, which is an SCSI connection.

I get constant "Disk Errors" when transfering even the smallest (2K) files.

Is anyone having the same problem? Also, does the Zip made for USB iMac and iBook work any better? Should I bite the bullet and get that.

Thanks for the help!

Which adapter do you have. The one made by Microtech has problems with
Zip drives. See the faq on Microtech's web site.

A follow-up Question:

Has anyone gotten more than one device to show up simultaneously. For me
I can only get one device at a time because the SCSI ID gets set to 0
irrespective of what I choose on the device.

Thanks - Ram

The issue is power. SCSI supplies power as does USB. Some SCSI devices handle power differently than others, including Zip drives. Most companies that make USB-SCSI adapters will have a compatibility list. In most cases, Zip drives only work when daisy-chained to a device that is compatible.

Given the cost of adapters, the 100MB USB Zip drive isn't too bad. The 250MB Zip is a lot more expensive.

The device compatibility list consists only of devices that have
been officially tested by them. It is possible that other devices
could work as well. As correctly pointed out the biggest problem
seems to be termination power. Belkin sells a USB/SCSI adapter with
an active term power that they claim works with ZIP drives as
well.

I'll repeat my earlier question. Has anyone gotten more than one
SCSI device to show up simultaneously with the USB/SCSI adapters?
