Got my iPod a few days ago. It is trulely a marvel!

I have a stupid question. When I go to the about menu on the iPod, it tells me that the capacity of the iPod is 4.6 GB. Why not 5.0 GB? Is it because of software? And if so, isn't 400 MB of software, alot of software?

Also, it was in another thread, but I am having a ball playing BREAKOUT on the iPod. (When on the "About" menu, press and hold the Select key.)
I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.....lloyd dobler

That sounds about right. It all depends on whose definition of "Gig" you use. In computer terms a gig is 2^30 = 1073741824. So doing a little math, 4.6 * 2^30 = 4939212390.4. The marketing types think of a gig as 10^9 which makes their quote close to the actual number of bytes you could store on the iPod. The 4.6 gigs and 5.0 gigs are esentially the same the bigger number is often used because it looks a little more impressive on the stat sheet.
