My uncle just upgraded to a shiney new iMac and gave his old printer to my mom. It's an Epson Stylus Color. Will it work with a Rev.A iMac? If so, what do I need to get it working?

You could buy a USB-serial adapter, but with the cost of those, I would just go ahead and buy an Epson 777 for $100 and get better quality.

Sell or donate the Stylus..

You don't say what model it is Think, the above advice is misleading as for some all you need is the USB cord which is commonly available.

I agree. Why buy a new printer when all you might need is a cable and (possibly) a fresh cartridge of ink. They're much cheaper Christmas presents.

Merry Christmas,

All the machine says is "Epson Stylus Color". When I checked at the Epson website, they had that listed as a model. The only other info I have is that the box says 720 dpi. It was hooked up to a Performa 6200cd, if that info is helpful at all. Thanx.

I may be mistaken, but I think the first USB-compatible Epson was the SC740.... But you could look into a serial-to-USB adapter. On the other hand, as some have already pointed out, a new printer might not cost much more than the adapter. I know there are new or refurbished 740s still available out there, and one of the new Epsons goes for just under $100.00, as I recall.

I just got two new SC 740s for $70 each by bidding on them at eBay.
Just in time to give them to my daughters for Christmas!

What a good mom! Better stuff their stockings with ink cartridges!

Epson does have a parallel to USB cable; however, it's no longer available from its webstore. Perhaps Outpost or other vendor'll have them. I have one for a Photo EX; it works well.

TI, splurge for the 777; it prints 1440 x 720. I saw one for, I believe, $90 at Costco--if you have one in your area.

I am stupidest when I try to be funny.

I myself have an iMac 350 (blueberry) and a good old IIcx. My printer is an Apple LaserWriter IIg with an Ethernet card. I have an Ethernet connector linking the LaserWriter with the iMac, but nothing works. I believe the printer might be the problem: I bought it second-hand and already quite tired from wear and tear (it's really frustrating when it takes 20 minutes to print one page of text!). Maybe the ethernet in the printer doesn't work. I hope that it is the case cause otherwise, it means the problem lies in the iMac.

The problem was settled recently (I say this in a sarcastic tone): last week, as I was trying to print, I was getting quite frustrated with the printer (this was the end of the semester with tight deadlines), so I give it a punch on the side. It seems to have been strong enough to have cut the wind of the printer cause it won't work anymore. Either I will have it repaired (but to what cost?) or I will get another second-hand printer. In the meantime, I will have to do without any printer. Grr!
