I have had my Hip Zip for about a month now. I love it. The Zip Disks are a great way to have a portable music collection. My question is has anyone heard if they will develop a disk that holds more than 40 megs?

If they did, you'd have to buy a new Hip Zip to take advantage of it. The version you have only recognizes 40MB media.

Anyway, I have a 32MB Rio MP3 player, and to get around the memory size limit I reencoded select MP3's as mono. This cuts the file size in half--thus, doubling the player's capacity.

Stereo sound isn't that impressive on the train or walking outdoors, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

Just a thought.

PHoynak, have you had any problems with the Hipzip displaying tags? I just picked up a Hipzip today. Overall, I'm very pleased with it, but I've found that mp3's that I've encoded with Soundjam MP do not display tags on the Hipzip, only the filename. Music that I've downloaded from the net as well as the music that came with the Hipzip display their tags fine.
Also, there is currently not a click or pocketzip disc that will hold more than 40MB.

I haven't really paid attention to the tags. Did you upgrade the firmware after you bought it? Maybe that would help.

I found out what the problem is. The HipZip uses ID3 tags ver.1.1. Soundjam defaults to 2.2. Luckily Soundjam makes it very easy to change the tags on existing mp3's.
