After upgrading to OS 9.1, my VST FireWire drives no longer mount. I know there's no physical problem with the drives, since they mount on other machines. When I try to connect one, it basically stops my machine. Doesn't completely freeze, since I'm able to move the cursor. But the clock stops and I'm unable to do anything at the Finder level. The drive doesn't spin up and never mounts. I tried download the driver updates from Smart Disk, but it hasn't helped. Is there additional software I need to download from Apple? The current FireWire Enabler and FireWire Support extensions are version 2.7. The FireWire VST Disk Support extension is 2.3.1. The VST FireWire HD Driver is 1.0. So what's going on here?

Have you tried the newest ones? 2.8.5 are from OS 9.2.2? It mightbe an extension conflict, try with the VST drivers off, only Apple's on and vice versa.

Tried booting with both Apple's bas extension set and full extension set. Still no dice.
