Hi,
after about 3 months of use my 17" LCD display has started misbehaving - tonight I noticed the power light pulsing erratically while the screen was in use and the illumination was fading from bottom to top- I took a series of photos using LCD Screen tester to generate uniform single colours across the screen - photos were all taken with the lights off to avoid reflections etc - I have posted a sample of the red screen at http://www.yp-connect.net/~macman/Im...d-PC163698.jpg - reduced in size and compressed to reduce loading time but otherwise untouched from the camera - ignoring the jpeg compression I hope it shows clearly the fault I described.

Has anyone else had this experience or am I just lucky :-) ?? Please tell me there is an easy fix - my nearest Apple dealer is 100 mies away - and the crazy season is with us - up until tonight I have been delighted with my LCD display.

3 months...eek. At least you still have Apple's 1 year warranty. Call them ASAP. I have had my 17" LCD for 5 months, and never a problem like that.
I tried to sig-spam the forums.

I tracked it down - the flashing lights - 2 short one long gave me a clue- it reminded me of the various signals Macs have for hardware errors and on page 76 of "Setting up your Power Mac G4" manual it says

"If you see a sequence of two short flashes and a long flash, the monitor is detecting a problem with a backlighting lamp.Contact an Apple-authorised dealer or service provider"

That is the good news - the bad news is I have to send it to Sydney for repair- and they are closing down at end of this week until 7th January so it will be some time before I can send it off and then it will be at least a week to repair - I have contacted Apple headquarters in Sydney and spoken to two Adelaide service places but neither is authorised to do the repair and cannot get access to parts even if they could - crazy world of Apple beauracracy rules once more - so the whole unit has to travel 2-3000 kilometres to change a light globe! Would be funny if it wasn't ridiculous

Could be worse - I could be in Afghanistan!
