- Costs less than $200
- Can be ordered online from a reputable e-tailer
- Has USB or FireWire connectivity
- Doesn't suck
- Will work under these specific operating conditions: Being hooked up to a PowerBook G4/667, running OSX.1.3, with Photoshop 5.5 in Classic mode (and PS7 when I can get my mitts on it), acquiring the images via ScanTastic or SilverFast or whatever TWAIN software comes with the scanner if it's any better.

Does any such animal exist? Developers and hardware manufacturers really need to start living in the NOW, I'm sick of buggy, system-killing OS9.

Thanks in advance.

The UMAX firewire scanners are quite good, although I am unsure on the price.

I am also quite sure that they will work under all operating systems.

Cool, I'll look into them. I was worried people wouldn't be able to take valuable time from wild speculation over the vaporware features of nonexistant iPod revisions to answer a simple scanner question. Thanks.

Agfa is the only one with OSX drivers. The scanners also rock.

It's my understanding that Agfa has abandoned the consumer scanner business.

I think the best scanner value is the Epson 1650, but I don't believe that Epson has OS X drivers yet. The solution is to get VueScan from hamrick.com, which is said to be a superior scanner driver anyway.
