Hello All,
Does anyone have any ideas for the following problem? My dad prints a lot from our iMac to the 740. When he's done using the computer, he puts it to sleep, often forgetting to turn the printer off. This causes the ink to dry out faster and can clogg the head. I will usually find the the printer on with the iMac asleep, and when I turn the printer off, the iMac wakes up. Is there a program that will remind the user to turn the printer off when they put it to sleep? Or is there software that can tell the printer to turn itself off after 30min or something (my canon BJC4550 would)? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Seth

Before you criticize someone, first walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Were did you hear this?
Epsons have physical buttons so no software can turn them off.

Epsons "park" their print heads when you shut them off. If you don't, the head hangs "out in the air" and, yes, the ink dries and clogs the head. A real PIA, since the head doesn't change with a new print cartridge. Simply turning off the power to the printer doesn't work either, you have to turn it off with the printer power switch.
Seth, try to get your pop to only turn the printer on when he prints, then turn it off.

And back to the sleep issue. I have the same thing with my Photo 1200. I put my G4 to sleep and momentarily forget to turn off the printer. When I quickly turn it off, the mac instantly wakes up. I haven't even tried to check this. But I think there's an option in the sleep prefs for waking upon Network activity. Maybe turning that off will work. I haven't tried it as of yet but I konw it was there in 9 and pretty sure it's still there.

mrchin - That's a great idea, I didn't even think of that. But when I went to find that option and turn it off, it was nowhere to be found. The iMac is a Rev D(?), and I read in the Energy Saver help that event options are only available if the mac supports it. ie, there's no option available to have it wake up when the lid is opened because it knows it's not a powerbook.
Thanks for the post.

Again, were did you hear this? I looked all over Epson's site and I can't find any info like that.
