I'm looking at 19" flat CRT monitors. Unfortunately, I can't actually "look" at them, so I'm web shopping. Any opinions on the following?
Samsung 955DF
Samsung 900NF
Sony CPD-G420S
Those are ordered by escalating price. Alternative suggestions are also welcome but I think the Sony is my max budget.
I do text documents and regular web browsing. I also plan to set up a digital darkroom and as a photographer, I'm slightly picky about color rendition and greyscales.
On the other hand, I'm also a student so I don't want to spend money unnecessarily.
Thanks!

Interesting the 900NF and G420S are the two monitors I have been looking at. What prices have you found for them?
Last time I checked, mwave.com had the sony with shipping for $410 or so. The sony also has dual cpu inputs so I can use it with my two machines. I could not find any details on how that works except a picture of the back with two inputs.

That's a bit better price than I have found on the Sony. Are Mwave reliable?

Go for a 19" NEC 950+. Thatī s the best you can find in itīs price catagory. The only negative thing with is the 1600x1280 resolution at 75hz. In other resulutions itīs hard to find any sharper and brighter 19" crt-display.
Iīhave previusly owned SONY and SAMSUNG monitors and NEC is so far the best for itīs price.

I just located a KDS XF-9P CRT for $200 flat.
Any thoughts on this monitor?

I have just bought my 4th Samsung monitor...
All have been of the highest quality, and performed faultlessly even after years of usage...I will not hesitate to buy another when the time comes.
However, I also have a Lacie Electron Blue III 19inch display. It is the *best* CRT I have ever used...I don't know about pricing in the States, but if you could stretch to it, you won't be disappointed...

Doesn't Apple use Samsung components for its monitors?

I have to agree with the Lacie 19". I have the 22" and it is the best monitor I have ever seen, we have a few 19"'s at work and they are great too.
I think www.macwarehouse.com sells them in the us .ca in Canada

They seem pretty good, I know peopler who have ordered several systems from them with no problem. If I decide to buy that Sony (which is at the top of my list) I will buy from Mwave. Here is a direct link to thier sony monitor page.

Thanks for all the help.
I just ordered a reconditioned LaCie 21" Electron Blue from the factory for $399 with free shipping. Woohoo!
I have a crapola 15" right now. This is going to be quite a jump!
I just hope it will: A. fit on the desk; and, B. work with my cheapo generic PC's video card (specifications unknown) until I get the Mac later this Summer. But if not, I figure I'll have a good monitor ready to go.
