this just started this afternoon, and i've been racking my brains out trying to figure this out.

My internal modem that came with my G4 yikes! has started always answering the phone.

I know it's not FaxSTF. I uninstalled it, and it still did it with FaxSTF uninstalled. I've confirmed FaxSTF's settings and it's not set to answer the phone ever.

I trashed every pref file for the modem I could find, and it still does it.

The oddest thing is this: When I startup with another startup disk, it doesn't do it.

It has to be some odd pref somewhere, but i can't find it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what's causing this?

In the control panel 'Remote Access' check the 'remote Access' menu for an option called 'answering' make sure the 'Answer Calls' box is unchecked.
