Hello good sirs,

I'm thinking about getting the above digital camera for my mom for Christmas. It's cheap: $150 includes shipping and 8 and 16 MB memory cards. My mom isn't that experienced with computers, so it has to be easy to use. The review I read on c|net said that it's good quality and skimps on features (OK with me - extra features would just make it more confusing). Does anyone have experience with this camera or advice? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I've not dealt with that particular model, but the two Fuji's I've used have produced very good pictures and have been very good cameras. A good review can be found here at Steve's Digicam Reviews.

Alright, I'm almost ready to make the purchase. Anyone have any final input?

[EDIT: Just checked Fuji's site, and no word on Mac compatibility. They don't list Mac drivers on the download page. Does this mean it won't work with a Mac??]

The Fuji camera's I have used have been Mac compatible out of the box. I would be suprised if this one is not.

If it is USB and is like the other Fuji's I have seen, the camera appears a volume on the desktop (OS 9).

If you mother is on OS X, it should come up under the Image Capture app.

No, she's not an OS X user. So it should work without any drivers? Wow... Can someone confirm this? I don't want to have to send it back. That would be pretty embarassing.

All Fuji Finepix work perfectly with X, no drivers need to be installed.
I have a 6800Z myself

Yeah, I gather it will work in OS X, but what about 9? She doesn't use OS X.

Currently using the Finepix 4700. Great photos and mac compatible out of the box. I am also using a HP photosmart p1000 printer. Great combo. I simply shoot pictures, pull the smart card out of the camera and insert it into the printer. I then print and index and decide what photos to print at 3 x 5, 4 x 6, or 8.5 x 11. All in all, I am very pleased.

Thanks for the advice, but I still don't know if the camera will work with OS 9. She won't have a card reader. She would have to plug it into her iMac with a USB cable. No one knows if this is possible without drivers in OS 9? Dec 25 is getting awfully close...
