that it will be like a brand-new iPod?

Initially, when I got my iPod, I used my Dual-USB iBook as my primary computer for the iPod. But of course, I've run out of space on my iBook for all my MP3s. I've run the iPod 1.0.2 updater on this before I even contemplated using my G4 as its primary computer.

I decided that I would then make my G4 desktop as my primary computer for the iPod. Before I can trash the MP3s off my iBook, I wanted to see if my G4 would recognize the iPod.

It's NOT even mounted in either Classic 9.2.2 or OS X 10.1.1, and nor would iTunes 2.0.3 start automatically and ask me if I want to automatically update my playlists on the iPod. Zilch.

The Apple logo on the iPod just hangs, and hangs, and HANGS.

I've checked to see if the FireWire port was the problem. Nope. It can read my other FireWire drives without a single problem.

Hence my desire to reset the iPod as in "factory fresh," and start over again. I love the iPod but it would be a REAL b*tch if I couldn't change the assignation of its primary computer (what if I sold my iBook and bought a new one, for instance?) with my iPod.

Thanks again for your input.

Much appreciated!

Question 9: How do I reset my iPod?
Answer: To reset iPod, connect the device to the iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter, or to the built-in FireWire port of a Macintosh computer using the FireWire cable that came with iPod, then hold down the Menu button and the Play/Pause button simultaneously for about ten seconds. When you reset, iPod saves all your music, data files, and customized preferences. To return iPod to its original, "out-of-the-box" state, you will need to use the Updater to reformat the hard drive and restore the software.
Goodluck!

my ipod froze today and scared me silly.

i did that and it brought it back to life.

but i'm backing everything up now everyday.

this is exactly why i wouldn't want one of those idiotic 15 in one fuction devices. if one screws up another function, then what?
