hi. i have an el gato eyehome to use as a media streamer from my mac to my home theater downstairs. works fairly well, but it is slow, unattractive and sort of fickle with its streaming/buffering. a friend of mine recently asked how he ought to do what i did.... and i was wondering if there are any other alternatives out there yet. are there?

desired features would be:
> music streaming from itunes to include playlists
> photos to tv
> onscreen (tv) display/menu to select from music, photos, etc.

those are the minimum, but videos would be cool as well. i know roku's soundbridge and another one do this, but only have a little lcd on the device that let you select from your mac. my problem with those is that if you have thousands and thousands of songs/albums.... it takes eternity to scroll through all that.

oh yea, my buddy has a new macintel imac with frontrow. would be cool if apple just made a frontrow device to hook up to a home theater.... but why would they ever do something so logical???? i don't think anyone else interfaces with frontrow just yet, but figured i better indicate it. thanks.

I believe this can be done with the new Tivo's.

i have been keeping my fingers crossed for a new airport express for years now.... then i started crossing my fingers that apple would make something that extends frontrow to a tv/stereo via an airport express or some device. at this point one has to wonder why they don't pay attention to this stuff. there are dozens and dozens of products for the windows platforms that do this, and almost none for the mac (yes, i know there are a few, but they are pretty mediocre and only hit a subset of possible features).

i have over 5000 songs in my itunes.... how the hell am i supposed to scroll through that with a 3 line lcd on the front of some device?

i looked at the new tivos, but had trouble identifying integration with macs though. whatever i get needs to integrate with itunes so that it can use playlists (big feature to me).
