Since this forum exsists, I figured I could take advantage of it to give my review of Macalley's iMediaKey keyboard.
Prior to purchasing the keyboard I had a bondi ergonomic keyboard with a blueberry iMac. Needless to say I felt I needed a new keyboard. I saw the extra functions on the iMediaKey keyboard and thought its extra functionality would be usefull. I purchased the keyboard online & connected it & installed the software for it. Its media buttons to control the CD player worked great, however I soon found that was the only great thing about it. Being that I don't commonly use the CD player, I had hoped to reconfigure the buttons to work with my MP3 player instead. Unfortunatly the way the iMediaKey works, the buttons can only be reconfigured to open items (such as applications), or program hotkeys (which would require the app to be the front most program in order for thoes to work). The only way to make it say, choose the next or prevous song in a seperate player globaly is to acually create an executable script to have it launch. and the time it takes to process that makes that functionality utterly useless.
After using it a couple days it occured to me that with apple's keyboard control panel, I could configure my fKeys to essentally do the same thing. I ended up e-mailing macally support to let them know that other than the cd player buttons, it was pretty much useless compared to the functionality of the keyboard control panel. I recomended they re-do the software for it to allow direct execution of scripts, without having to launch a compiled script executable, however the leter appeard to go completely ignored.
Needless to say I now use a truform keyboard that properly matches my computer color, and have programmed the fkeys to launch the progams I need...
Anybody want to buy a slightly used iMediaKey???
