I have an Epson 900 with the LocalTalk adapter installed and hooked up to an Airport ethernet port via a Farallon iPrint LT. It works, but at best the operation is marginal. The printer pauses for long periods during print jobs. This is especially apparent when printing graphics, but occurs while printing text as well.
This morning I increased the memory alloted to Epson Monitor 3 to 4 times the original amount. (orig = 2128 K, now 10512 K). Ran a print job of a photo through Quicktime and no difference - print pauses for 10-20 seconds about 3/8 inch into photo, then printhead shuttles a few times and pauses again.
The interesting thing is when I run "About this computer...", the window displays 15.5 MB allocated to Epson Monitor 3. (I have 320 MB memory, and 321 MB of VM.) I then doubled the memory allocation to ~21 MB, restarted another print job and the "About ..." window showed 26 MB allocated. Is that an abnormal indication or occurrence?
If I connect directly to the USB port printing is normal. This uses a different driver (SC900 vice SC900AT), however, which makes it difficult to pinpoint the source of the problem. Problem occurs whether printing from a Pismo or iMac DV.
Suggestions heartily welcomed!
