About a month old and I had a disaster. Upon attempting to back up my FW drive, I encountered a disk error and the little yellow box that told me that i might have lost data. Well, of course I did lose data. AND, even when I did try to remount, my machine told me that the disk was unreadable.

After many hours with Norton's nothing fixed it and my data was gone. Now I can't reformat with Disk First Aid and it is not recognized by OSX.1(Almost locks it up and never mounts) or 9.2 if it is connected via firewire- it also has USB which will mount fine, but who wants that. The mechanism is an IBM 20gb. Has anyone else had any of these symptoms or can anyone explain what might be happening? Any help would be appreciated

You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage.

I had experienced the same problem as you. Four months ago I bought a Slimline Ultra 3.5'' firewire case from firewiredirect.com. I installed a 60GB Maxtor 7200 HDD in it. One month later, while I was transfering some files, the disk suddenly crashed. After reboot, the disk was unredable by the the finder. I tried using Norton file saver to recover my files. The operation was successful because I was indexing the drive on a regular basis but when i tried using Norton disk doctor the disk was not reparable. I had to get it out of the case and put it on the ATA chain to reformat it and put my files back on it. Two weeks later, same error, unrecognized drive. I had to reformat again. Since then i changed the 60GB drive for a 100GB Western digital 7200 drive. About a week ago, same error. The disk became UNRECONIZED by the system. I have not been able to revover any data from it. I have always been using the most recent firewire drivers and OS version. I have great difficulties to isolate where the problem come from. Is it the Oxford 911 bridge or the drivers ? I know for sure that it is not the hardrive. I dont want to change my case if I am not sure that it causes the probems. Firewire hardrive technology seems very unstable to me. Any help would be appreciated...
