I have my laptop connected to my printer (HP Photosmart 7450) and cable modem via Airport Express. Everything works well for the most part...the printer prints through Bonjour and I'm online. However, the card reader on the printer no longer works since switching to AE/Bonjour. I put a card in and it's as if the printer never sees it. In the past the card reader has worked perfectly. My digital camera is a Coolpix 3100 with a CompactFlash card.

Many thanks,
JM

It may, counter-intuitively, require a direct computer connection in order to use the card-reader. That's just a guess.

Welcome, whollyhis! Now the bad news: most USB printers don't do much more than print through a network, no matter how you connect them. And multifunction devices only print-if that. The whole idea of networked USB printers seems to be beyond most printer makers, because they have yet to develop a standardized, well implemented way of making even simple functions like "I'm out of ink" talk from the printer to the computer using it over a network. Sorry...

Not "most USB printers." ALL USB printers, because Airport's USB ports have strictly print support, and absolutely nothing more*. They are not remote USB ports. Only the AirPort sees the USB port. All the computers see only a network printer.

*Single exception: the PoE version of the AirPort Extreme Base Station has a USB port that supports using a USB hub to connect 4 printers instead of just one.
