Why is every so upset with iPod? I think it's great. The price is very competitive with the rest of the market ($400 for a 5 gig player compared to $250 128MB player from Rio, not to mention it has firewire hookups, and a very nice, clear LCD screen w/ easy to use interface).
This is Apple's first step into the peripheral market since the Newton. Sure things might be a little shakey, but let Apple's feet settle into this very volatile, ever-changing market.
Everyone seems to be forget the "Digital Hub" idea. This is only the first step. Just imagine the possibilities of this thing. How much does a DVD hold? Isn't it close to 5 gigs. In as little as a year this thing could hold a couple full length movies, be a PDA of some sort, picture viewer, MP3 player, etc. This is only the first step.
Lastly, why is everyone complaining it's Mac only. It was built by APPLE for Pete's sake. Man, why didn't they release OS X or iTunes, or iDVD, or Final Cut Pro for PC? Because it's APPLE and they're only going to release things for Macs to start out with.
If you don't like it, don't buy it, but don't pound on those who do like it.
