I would like to be able to use my Quicksilver G4 as a caller ID box. For a long time, I used a serial port-based product called YoYo that used caller ID to announce calls, use custom rings, screen calls, etc. Unfortunately, that product has been unsupported since before OS 8. I would like to get some of those capabilities back.
I have identified one shareware program called Mac Caller ID that seems to offer some of those capabilities. The program doesn't support OS X, the GUI is dated, and it's unclear whether the program is still supported by the author, but let's set the software issue aside for now. (If I have to, I'll simply write my own simple caller ID program in Real Basic -- thanks ResExcellence!)
The primary stumbling block at the moment is that I have not been able to confirm that any Mac compatible USB modem actually supports caller ID. I would like to know that a particular modem will actually offer this feature so that I don't invest $40-50 in a brick. Can anyone help?
