Is the Agfa 1212u USB scanner really as bad as may of you in the forums have stated? I was considering getting one for my parents to use with their iMac because the price was right.

What other low cost USB scanners are people using, and which are the best.

i got the 1212u because i needed a USB scanner on the cheap (got it for $50 after rebate).. it's not that bad. obviously, there are scanners with much better quality, but they cost more. i use it for personal stuff, and the quality is fine for me. i wouldn't use it for professional publishing or anything, but it's perfectly fine for basic uses.

I don't know what the price of the Agfa is, but I have the Umax 2100U. I have never had any problems with it at all! I am very happy with the scans and never a problem with the software either!

I have a 1212U, and it works good for what I want it for. I saw the colour, and then the price, and stupidly bought it without even reading reviews. But I only use it occasionally, so it's OK. But the ScanWise software that comes with it it pretty lame. Overall: It acts like an inexpensive scanner should.
