Does one of these exist? Under US$500?
I'm finding CD-R storage kinda limiting nowadays, since I've got double digit GBs of MP3s nowadays (encoded myself).
It'd be nice if I could create a DVD-R disc with MP3s that both my PC and Mac could read. It'd be even better if my DVD player could read it but I'm guessing that's pushing it.

You're not going to find a pre-built external DVD-R that cheap but you can make one. The DVR-A03 drive itself is as low as $400 now Click Here and then you can get any number of Firewire enclosures in the $100-150 range. Plus you would need Toast Titanium (which you may already have).
Edit: Then again, a search on
Price Watchfor 'DVR-A03' external shows some firewire DVD-R's for about $520 on up (for PC w/o Toast).

iDVD isn't supposed to work because Apple designed it to look for internal devices only. You could take the drive out of a new G4 and put it in a case and the software won't see it.

I know, I tried it and it works fine, however, I just don't want to have my dvd-rw drive to be one all the time, sime my system is up 24/7.
I am looking for a fix for it, but couldn't fine anywhere even at the site suggested above.
Every seemed to suggest your solution.
Thank

I wonder why. That makes no sense to me, and essentially excludes a large minority of the population in the future who want to do DVD.
Thanks for the suggestions. I wonder how much DVD-R media is now locally.
By the way, would most MP3-capable DVD players be able to read an MP3 DVD?

I got mine here in LA for $375 for the drive and $75 for the Firewire case.
The media is $4 for DVD-R and $7 for DVD-RW
I have to try the MP3 on the DVD-rw and let you know.
