It's very simple. Plug in your iPod before you boot up. What this does is make iPod act as a firewire drive and it shows up on the desktop.

DO NOT HAVE ITUNES SET TO LAUNCH ON LOG IN OR START UP OR YOUR (PARDON THE EXPRESSION) SCREWED.

Dont forgot to drag the iPod icon to the trash when your done since it is acting like a firewire drive.

Are you gonna change your user name when and if the G5 comes out?

Sorry to be the grammar police here, but the phrase you're looking for is "you're screwed", not "your screwed". You want the contraction of you and are, you're, not the possesive form of you, your.

C'mon people, we're supposed to be a more enlightened bunch then the seething PC masses. Learn to spell.

you can plug in your ipod, turn on itunes, go to ipod preference on the lower right corner, **TURN OFF** itunes automatically launched when connected. And your itunes will not opened automatically in the future.

Guys you all missed the point of this thread. This is in response to someone who has forgotten their electrical plug and is using their laptop computer to charge their iPod and not their home computer.

They have no songs on their laptop and if Itunes opens up with no songs in the application then immediately you now have an iPod with no songs in it either (and I do me IMMEDIATELY). It does no good to check the manual button after your iPod is updated. The whole point is "You need to be able to reach the preferences for the iPod before iTunes opens - not afterwards - it's too late then.

maybe we don't have the same ipod though. This has never happen to my ipod.

When i plug it into my powebook, it asks me if i want to replace the entire ipod's library even though i have only one song on my powerbook and i have set it for auto-syncing, because it realizes i am syncing with different computers.

This solution is in reference to another thread, where the person forgot their power adapter, and had their iPod set to autosync. The real problem is that person has a tibook and has all of their mp3s on an external firewire drive that is not with them. So, since the tibook is the main computer it will try and autosync and delete all the songs.

Hope that cleared up the confusion.

Or you can get one for Christmas and it's dead out of the box. Just like the hard drive on the powerbook that died, or the new one that sings all the time. Then there is the cheesy plastic PMCI thing on the powerbook that breaks. Apple GIVE ME A BREAK, MAKE SOMETHING OF QUALITY!!!!!!!
