Mosey on over to AppleInsider and take a gander at Apple's supposed new mouse. Notice anything about it? Say, maybe the fact that the finger and thumb indents on it would only fit a right-handed person? Now, this is a case of monumental stupidity: either Apple for just up and ignoring the 10-odd percent of the world population lucky enough to be left-handed, or AppleInsider for believing this load of bull that their 'sources' have shoved towards them. I respect Apple for what they've done for computing. I respect AppleInsider for reporting stuff like this even though 95 percent of it never pans out. But this....well, my respect for one of them's gonna have to give a little, cause this is just plain DUMB.

I really doubt apple would make a right hand only mouse... I bet they would not use the renditions given at AI for the lack of left handedness. If they do, I wonder if they make 2 versions of the mouse, left and right hand, but that would waste many resources/time. Don't believe this stuff, Apple does not release such things that make you not be able to use the computer well (hmm maybe I should take that back... hockey puck, no forward delete on the new keyboards, etc)...

well, www.pbzone.com earlier had a link to a ZDNet article about apple's new mouse.. the thing is, their "artist's rendition" of the mouse looked totally different.. it was basically a black egg-shaped thing with gray spots on either side.. this shows that it's a good idea to take most rumors with a grain of salt until you hear it straight from Steve Jobs' mouth

Apple historically has produced products that are are left handed friendly, so I cannot and will not believe that those pictures at AppleInsider are anywhere near factual.
As fun as they can be, take the rumor sites with a grain of salt.

proof that you shouldn't believe rumour sites. That artist's rendering is a rat, not a mouse

Anyone else see whats happening? Is it really like Apple to say, "hey, take a look at our new product - tell ya what, put it on your website too!".
I have no doubt this came from Apple. I have no doubt you will never see it in real life either.
Get what I'm saying? False information. Or it could be that thing they do - you know, give certain employees certain designs and see which gets out. Maybe they gave that to a stupid one.

Actually, that's been known to happen in the past with some of Apple's high profile products. Steve puts a little counter intelligence out for the people see before the real product is launched.
Everybody gets hyper two weeks from MacWorld!

it seems to me unlikely that either of those designs could be authentic.
AI's is very ugly, does Steve do ugly? (and also it's not symetric).
ZDNet's has no Apple logo, would Apple manufacture a mouse without a logo?

I suggest you all look here: http://www.geocities.com/notfake_mac/
These pictures were posed in the forum over at AI and are rumored to be the real thing for a few reasons:
a) It has an iMac USB-looking cable
b) It has a slight red glow inside, an indication of optical technology
c) It looks exactly like the ZDNet sketch posted a day or so before these photos came out
Please realize that it's probally black because it's just a prototype for testing the optical technology. The person who posed these at AI only said it rocked forward. The real version is supposed to be squeezable. Clearly this version doesn't have an Apple logo.
I personally think AI got suckered. The new mouse DOES exist, but I think somebody with no knowlege of what it really looks like created those horrible renderings.

Well, Here's what I think.. Apple have sown you guys a dummy.. A decoy! And it looks like many people have fallen for it too.. I recon they leaked this little "Story" on purpose so as to get people of their backs a little Re any new iMacs or MultiProc G4's coming out etc.. If you ask me.. It's only a Mouse! A mouse is a mouse for crying out loud! (Unless it has legs of course, and even then it's still a mouse!) So, is a new mouse really worth getting so excited about? Personally speaking.. I don't think so.

I remember reading somewhre in an apple insider article that the acuall mouse will be abidexterous (did i spell that right?)... I personally belive it will probably look something between the apple insider sketch, and the dull black one shown pictures of...
corse I could be wrong... I just hope the supposed "rocking motion" isn't difficult to execute, especially considering I have rhematoid arthritis. Apple's round mouse was killing me until I finally got a different one...

Apart from all the stuff and the fact that it is simply some misinformation (which I have no doubt of), it just doesn't look very 'Appleish' wouldn't you say?
