For a really small microdrive:

for a small but larger 2.5" low profile drive:

The iPod drive mechanism is likely bigger than the IBM microdrive but contain 5x the storage. The mechanism is also smaller than standard 2.5" portable drives but holds less data. So considering its a full featured mp3 player that is likely better in many aspects than most mp3 players at any price I think the iPod is fairly priced
