...maybe you all wouldn't be so disappointed with the iPod if you hadn't gone and hyped the unknown device to the moon and back...
hope at least some people learned a lesson

exactly.
"it's 2001 and we still don't have flying cars or an airport-enabled digital audio and video recorder the size of your finger nail that costs $29.95!" honestly, people...

It was hype from the beginning. What can you expect when the wheels of imagination are put in motion with such key phrases like "groundbreaking" and "revolutionary". You kinda expect something a little (???) beyond the humble mp3 player. It was overhyped from the beginning. Atleast for next time we're faced with the possibility of actually getting something worth blowing our loads over, the reflex will be to put on our Reality Distortion Field glasses with the built-in hype-filter.

As far as I can see, the iPod has done its real job perfectly: We've all suggested a whole sled-load of unpatented ideas that they can try next time.

It is groundbreaking. I've never seen an MP3 player this small, this easy to use, with this battery life that looks as good as this. What exactly were you expecting Apple to say?
A lot of people are claiming Apple said it was going to be "revolutionary". Care to back this up with some links?

Actually we have seen all of those things before. Many Rio solid state players are smaller and better looking than this blocky Zippo lighter looking thing. And they have lots more battery life.

ooh, don't go there. Some of these pie-in-the-skyers are still mad about that one.
What about Son of Pismo. These idiots are still wailing about that too.
