Is anyone running this combination of scanner and software? I was originally using the VistaScan software that came with the scanner but it sucked - beond the goofy interface, everytime I tried to scan multiple pages using a TWAIN plug in, it crashed. This forced me to scan all the pages to files, then go to the other program (usually acrobat) and import them all - major PITA!

Searching the forums, I found wlonh's multiple suggestions to use MagicScan. I downloaded 4.3, didn't work with my scanner, tried the 4.4 upgrade - jackpot! Much cooler interface, no more TWAIN crashes, everything is great EXCEPT this idiotic scanner doesn't have an on/off switch. The old VistaScan s/w has a control strip item that allowed me to turn off the "bulb" but with MagicScan, I can't do that...

I can't imagine it being good for the life of the thing to always be on - so does anyone have a better solution? Either a way to turn off the scanner light or a way to use VistaScan without it crashing my system. ANyone?

What version of VistaScan are you using? i had the same problems but they went away with the VistaScan 3.5.4 update. With the original VistaScan software that came with my scanner the software never automatically turned the scanner off - i always had to do it manually but the latest update fixes all that and doesn't conflict with the OS (9.0.4)

Yeah, mine never turned off automatically either but that didn't matter since it was easy enough for me to use the control strip to turn it off.

So you can scan multiple pages through TWAIN into another app without crashes? Well I'm not looking forward to doing this uninstall and reinstall but I don't wanna go buy another scanner either so...
I also found some problems with MagicScan - it doesn't seem to like sending multiple images via TWAIN using Batch Scan mode when the images need to be rotated. Very minor problem but at least I know that MagicScan software wasn't perfect either!

Not to keep replying to my own topic but... just in case someone searching the archives has the same problem. Here is what I did:

- installed MagicScan 4.4 (which was a bit of a PITA since it involved manually removing many VistScan components)
- downloaded and installed VistaScan 3.5.4 (without disabling anything else)

Now I can control the on/off of the scanner via the Control Strip and for scanning have the choice of either software (even via TWAIN). As long as you have the HD space, I recommend this solution - MagicScan is WAY better than VistaScan in every way (most notably the ability to Batch Scan vs Multiple Scans). I still have been unable to acquire via TWAIN largish images (>1MB) which need to be rotated (VistaScan wouldn't either) but other than that, I'm content - at least for now.
