I am stunned by the negative comments about iPod. Most people are here because they have a Mac or are interested in Apple, so why do they think that this product will be different that anything else Apple produces?
Isn't it a certainty that it will carry the same values, quality and ease of use as all their other products? Ok it's not cheap (although it's not that expensive either), but cost isn't just the sum of it's physical parts. Apple understands the importance of good design more than any other company I can think off. We've got to live with devices such as this everyday, putting the same effort in to form as functionality results in a very well rounded product that people enjoy owning. I think people are underestimating the value of design - I'm willing to pay more for something that feels good to use, hold and own.
To be innovative and original involves taking risks and making mistakes. The iMac was a big risk - it paid off, the Cube was a risk - it didn't pay off. We'll see what happens with iPod. Apple have a lot of cash in the bank, the reason for that is so they can experiment and take risks, if they don't they will be playing safe an innovation wont happen.
Going back to the iPod's design, all the people that are saying it's just another music player have only read the specs online, wait till you actually hold one and then decide that you don't want one.
