We have some 3 Macs with Superdrives ... all seem to be struggling in diferent ways with reading/writing DVD's. An iMac with the latest firmware will write DVD's OK but won't read them; a G5 will read DVD's but won't write them etc.. We've tried variuos media but still have issues.
I'd like to buy an external writer that we could move around as needs be... my local Apple dealer recommends the Lacie D2 (with Lightscribe) - I have had bad experiences with Lacie products in the past and wonder if there's others available that users might recommend??
Pioneer DVR-111D (fastest, most capable burner on the market as far as I know) and an Oxford 9xx based enclosure... should be about $70-80 total ($36 for the burner, $30-45 for the enclosure).
Thanks for the recommendation... Had a quick look around and found one as an external but it's only available with a USB connection. Will the read/write speeds be OK?

Thanks.

Even in the UK surely you can find the bare drive and an enclosure to put it in. I don't think newegg ships there, but try to find the bare OEM drive and an external enclosure with any combination of fw800/fw400/usb2 that you want.
